The White Hart pub at in Pool-in-Wharfedale has been closed since just before Christmas after its kitchen and restaurant areas were badly damaged by the blaze on December 21.

Five members of live-in staff managed to escape the fire and were later re-homed and offered work at other pubs within the Mitchell and Butlers’ chain.

But they have now returned home to the popular pub, in time for the grand opening last week.

Manager Chris Chew said the fire started in the bin yard at about 1.30am and everyone managed to get out.

He said: “There was not much left of the roof of the kitchen after the fire - it covered the whole back area of the pub. From the back yard, to the kitchen, cellar, toilets and restaurant area.

“Obviously it was a distressing time for everyone. People who lived in the pub lost their homes as well.”

He added: “It’s been a long time but what happened is in the past and we now have a big shiny pub to open back up with.”
