Fire near ITV Emmerdale studios after caravan catches light at traveller encampment

Firefighters were called to a burning caravan close to the studio where Emmerdale is filmed.

Travellers had set up camp on the patch of land of Kirkstall Road, next to Radio Aire and The Leeds Studio, where the ITV soap is filmed.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at lunchtime on Sunday after the caravan caught light.

The travellers have since left the site.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "Our control room received a call at 13.26 on Sunday, 16 August, to a report that a caravan was on fire on a piece of land off Kirkstall Road.

"A fire engine from Leeds Fire Station attended and put out the fire.

"No one was injured and the fire did not spread.

"The police also attended.

"Crews left at 14.11."
