Plumber Veronica Noonan from Wakefield is through to the grand final of a competition to find Britain’s Top Tradesman.

She beat off competition from more than 3,000 entrants to be crowned top of the trade in Yorkshire in the contest run by trade retailer Screwfix.

Veronica, who trades under the name Sugar-Plumb Solutions, will now battle it out with nine other finalists from across the country at Wembley Stadium on October 31 for the chance to be crowned Britain’s Top Tradesman 2012.

Top prize for the winner of the contest is a new £27,000 Renault van.

Veronica, who set up her own business just 18 months ago, said: “It’s not been easy for me to get started, so it’s fantastic news to be selected as a finalist and see all my hard work paying off.

“I wasn’t taken seriously at first, so I secured a loan from the Prince’s Trust, set up my own business and have built up a great customer base, mainly amongst those who prefer to have a woman working in their home. I hope to inspire other young women to get into a trade.”
