They stole a range of items, including a laptop, Playstation console, lawn mower and strimmer.

But it is the theft of 10-year-old African Grey parrot Barney which has caused the family the greatest upset.

The beloved pet was taken along with his bag of food when the break-in took place between 8.30am and 1.30pm on Thursday.

Detective Constable Sarah Hamer, of Bradford CID, said: “Any burglary is devastating for the victim, but in this case it’s even more upsetting for the family with Barney also been taken.

“Barney does speak, and it’s likely he will be making a lot of noise where ever he is being kept. We want to re-unite Barney with his owners."

Barney’s cage could not be taken due to its size and police believe that the suspects may have used a hessian bag or large box to transport him.

Det Con Hamer said: "Anyone who was in the area on Thursday morning who have seen anyone acting suspiciously or who has any information should come forward.

"Equally anyone who may have seen a parrot like Barney for sale or who has been invited to buy a parrot like him should to get in touch.”
