Expanded services at Wharfedale Hospital day ward

The Day Treatment Unit at Wharfedale Hospital in Otley has expanded its range of services.

The enhanced Friday service provides procedures including transfusions, venesections (bloodletting, often to reduce high iron levels), infusions, and injections.

The home-grown initiative was started in response to patient feedback. Consultant haematologist Dr Graeme Smith noticed that many patients attending his Outpatient clinic at Wharfedale lived locally, and found it inconvenient when referred to other Leeds hospitals for procedures. The new service is tailored specifically to local patients’ needs.
