Epitome of cafe culture turns two

Hyde Park Book Club will host a week of events, starting on Monday, which highlight how it has moved on from being a cafe to a platform for local artists, musicians and writers.

The birthday week starts with HalliGalli, who will incorporate performance, dance and DJ’s into live art. Leeds Independent Socialists will host a discussion on the crisis in Venezuela, whilst Red Ladder’s Chris O’Connor will be holding a scratch night for his new writing, Life is Sketchy.

Several evenings will be dedicated to live music, including Leeds band Green Gardens, Lina Tullgren’s UK-leg of her European tour and the first event from Madame Jazz, who will host an evening supporting and celebrating women in jazz with all profits being donated to BASIS Yorkshire, a charity providing support for Leeds sex workers

Owner and founder, Jack Simpson said: “We’re super proud of the space and everything that has happened already. Leeds is so exciting right now - writers, artists, thinkers and musicians. It’s great we can provide a space for this to take place in.”
