Enjoying family life in Bramley

I am Liz Conner, my husband is Richard Conner and we have three children. Benedict is 4, Wilson is 2-and-a-half and Sicily is 6 months. We live in Bramley with our two Labradors, Maurice and Dixon. We are lucky enough to have had three children naturally with few issues, although Benedict was initially a little poorly, being born seven weeks early. My husband is a Manager at British Gas and I work as a Senior Assistant for Leeds City Council. I am currently on maternity leave so fill my time helping a local charity; Leeds Baby Bank. I am holding a Baby Sale on July 7 at Trinity Church, Town Street, Bramley, 11am-2pm, to raise money for this fantastic service.

What are your top tips for getting children to do what you ask? I hate to say it but bribery, normally with chocolate!

What family task takes you the longest? Getting coats and shoes on to go anywhere.

What’s the most bizarre thing you have found yourself saying since having kids? The odd things we call body parts. Willywinkyweewees!!! Not sure where that even came from.

What’s the funniest thing your children have ever said/done? Once Benedict pretended he’d lost a toy on the walk home from nursery. He waited until we’d walked half way back to find it before going “surprise, no I didn’t” producing said toy from behind his back. I struggled to see the funny side initially, but we do still laugh about it now.

Mini moan - what really gets your goat? The boys fighting over the same toy/drink/food/clothing. We even buy identical things yet they still argue over them. What hobbies/pastimes do you enjoy as a family and separately? We love going to parks and beaches and always holiday in the UK, getting to see the beautiful places our country has to offer a growing family. I love to run (when I have not just had a baby) and I also love going for out for meals and generally getting out of the house socialising. My husband likes chilling out at home watching sport or a movie.

What’s the hardest thing about being a parent? Losing myself a little; my own identity that I had worked hard for 31 years to develop before having children. What’s a typical evening for the grown-ups once the children are in bed? Dinner. My hubby doesn’t get home until 9pm so we often enjoy a meal together and catch up on the days activities.

What is Leeds’ most family-friendly restaurant and why? Rosie’s Diner in Kirkstall’s Cardigan Fields.

What’s the best thing about weekends and why? The freedom that weekends bring. Whether it be activities as a whole family, or the chance for me to catch a few hours without them. Sometimes to be a good mum, you need to spend some time not being a mum at all.

What is your most treasured memory? When we brought Sicily home to see her big brothers for the first time. Our anxieties immediately lifted seeing the joy and care they showed loving their baby sister.

What’s the children’s favourite food/meal? My risotto normally goes down very well (we call it cheesy rice).
