Emmerdale stars have joined several blind veterans as they trained for the 100k Yorkshire challenge.

The 24-hour walk is being organised by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women and the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind, who provide people with sight loss the support they need.

Jonathan Wrather, who plays Pierce Harris, Katherine Dow Blyton (Harriet Finch) and Karen Blick (Lydia Hart), joined blind veterans John Cantwell, Carl Adamson, Mike Johnson and Steve Thomas as they trained for the ultra-challenge in the Yorkshire Dales.

The training day marked the second time that Jonathan, a former Cadet in the Combined Cadet Forces, has joined up with the blind veterans to train. He will be walking 50km with Katherine and Karen each walking an additional 25km for the challenge.

Jonathan said: “I’m really looking forward to getting out there and interacting with everyone involved.

“I’ve still got a bit of training to get through, so days like this are absolutely invaluable. It’s great to catch up with the guys again and get some tips from them.”

Katherine added: “It is a great honour to take part in such an amazing event. It is going to be tough and I am sure my feet are going to hate me but it is for such a great cause and I can’t wait to get started.”

The training day saw the team start off by Ripley Castle.

Karen, whose Grandfather was in the military, said she is inspired by the veterans.

“Just speaking to some of the veterans taking part has been incredible; their outlook on life is inspiring and it’s clear what an enormous difference the charity has made to their lives,” she said.
