Emergency services dealt with a fire on a ward at St James's Hospital.

The fire service attended the hospital last night following reports of a fire on a ward.

There were no injuries and the incident was dealt with 'quickly and safely managed' by hospital staff and the fire brigade, Leeds Hospitals NHS Trust told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The ward continues to operate as normal today, it was confirmed.

A statement provided to the Yorkshire Evening Post by the trust read: "There was a small fire on one of our wards last night.

"Nobody was hurt and the incident was quickly and safely managed by our staff and the Fire Brigade.

"The ward continues to operate as normal."

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said three pumps attended.

The fire was out when the emergency services arrived.

A statement said: "We were called at 21:50 to reports of a fire in a building on Beckett Street in Leeds.

"Three fire engines attended – two from Leeds Fire Station and one from Killingbeck Fire Station.

"The fire was already out when crews arrived."
