Sadly, the man has since passed away – and died knowing that his home had been the subject of a burglary.

Det Insp Dave Rogerson, from Wakefield District CID, said: “We are appealing for members of the public to provide any information they have to ensure the person or people responsible are identified and brought to justice for this offence which caused the victim distress in the last days of his life.

“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious which could be connected to this offence or with information about anyone involved is asked to call Wakefield District CID via 101.”

Entry to the victim’s home was forced through a window, with cash and medication being taken.
