The eight Leeds pubs and bars told to improve their food hygiene

These Leeds pubs, social clubs and bars have all been told to improve their food hygiene practices.

Three have been given one-star ratings by the Food Standards Agency and six have been handed two-star certificates.

The ratings are based on the most recent ratings published on the Food Standards Agency’s website, Food Hygiene Website

A two-star rating means that improvement is necessary while a one-star rating means major improvement is needed.

Businesses are inspected by a food safety officer sent by the local authority. The inspector checks how well the business is meeting the law by looking at:

- How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored

- The condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities

- How the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe

At the end of the inspection, the business is given one of the six ratings from 0-5.

Jonathan Michael recently took over as landlord of The Crown in Ivegate, Yeadon, which was last rated in February 2017.

He said: “The business is now under new management and we are currently in the process of refurbishing the kitchen.

“We are not serving food at the moment. Once the kitchen is up and running we will be serving traditional pub food so come and check us out then.”
