East Leeds: Woman, 82, critical after being hit by car

An 82-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after she was hit by a car in Garforth.

The pensioner was waiting at the bus stop on the A63 Selby Road, Cliff Top, at about 8.35am on Saturday when she was hit by a red Volkswagen Polo.

The car had been heading towards Garforth from the Peckfield roundabout when it left the carriageway and hit the shelter she was waiting in.

She was left with serious injuries and is currently at Leeds General Infirmary in a critical condition.

The Polo driver, a 56-year-old man from Selby, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
