Dumped cannabis leaf found by council staff

COUNCIL workers cleaning up after flytippers discovered more than 5kg of cannabis leaf.

The illegal plant material was found as staff from Doncaster Council’s Neighbourhood Response Team investigated the dumping of eight large sacks of rubbish in Whittington Street, Wheatley.

Suspicions were raised when the bags were found to have a very strong smell.

The bags were handed over to South Yorkshire Police and the contents confirmed to be cannabis leaf.

Police inquiries are underway to try and track down where they came from.

Mayor Ros Jones said: “Well done to the team for their hard work and dedication to keeping a zero-tolerance approach to drugs in Doncaster, working in partnership with South Yorkshire Police.

“This is a great result which reinforces the message that our ‘eyes and ears’ on the ground will not tolerate this kind of illegal activity.”

Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police or Crimestoppers.
