Shoppers can save money this Christmas by parking on rented driveways and empty parking spaces near to shopping centre car parks.

The new research by online parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk reveals that the cost of parking in town and city shopping centres can be three times or more than that of parking on nearby rented driveways and empty parking spaces.

And with the average UK family splashing out about £800 on Christmas, cheaper parking is one way to cut costs, especially if trips to a shopping centre are a frequent occurrence.

For instance, shoppers going to The Light in Leeds would need to pay £13.50 if parking at the complex for six hours, but those happy to walk just 12 minutes’ can find a nearby space for only £2.50 with YourParkingSpace.co.uk

Meanwhile, shopping at the popular Centrale & Whitgift in central Croydon at the weekend can cost car owners £10 for a six hour stay at the Centrale car park, whereby YourParkingSpace.co.uk offers a site for just £5 and five minutes’ walk away.

Midland shoppers can also ‘bag’ a parking bargain. A trip to the busy Bullring Shopping Centre can cost £10.00 for six hours but just £6.25 and a short four minutes’ walk away with YourParkingSpace.co.uk
