Drighlington post office at risk of closure

The modernised postal service will operate from Londis on King Street and the current branch will shut, subject to a consultation.

The relocation would mean that customers could access Royal Mail services for longer, as the post office would have the same opening hours as the shop.

A six-week public consultation has now been launched on the proposal, which will see the creation of an open-plan area and self-service points. The Londis store opens from 6am-10pm seven days a week, offering customers an extra 70 hours of time to visit the postal counters as well as Sunday opening.

“We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Drighlington and we are confident that this new, modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future,” said regional manager Suzanne Richardson.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in our history.”
