The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular is being staged at the £60m venue on Wednesday, May 27, next year.

It will see the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and members of the BBC National Chorus of Wales performing music that has featured in the long-running science-fiction series. A giant screen will show key Doctor Who moments and specially-edited sequences as an accompaniment to the live sounds.

And joining the musicians on stage will be a selection of the monsters and villains that have tried and failed to get the better of the programme’s hero over the years.

A spokesman said: “The show features a host of the Doctor’s famous adversaries including the iconic Daleks and Cybermen, the spine-chilling Silence and many more fan favourites.

“The live monsters provide a dramatic contrast to the evocative and thrilling music written by Murray Gold, who has been responsible for composing music for the series over the last eight years, including the record-breaking and BAFTA award-winning 50th anniversary episode Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor.”

Leeds is one of just six stops being made by the show on its UK premiere tour.

It has previously played to packed crowds in Australia, including a sell-out run of nine performances at Sydney Opera House.

A review by the Sydney Morning Herald said: “The whole experience brought unalloyed pleasure that in some cases amounted to a religious rite.”

Tickets for the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular go on sale this Friday, priced from £20.

Purchases can be made online via the www.firstdirectarena.com website, over the phone on 0844 248 1585 or in person from the box office at the Trinity Leeds centre’s customer service lounge.
