Developer dips in to chocolate for Works anniversary

It's all about the chocolate, as the developer behind the award-winning works of Terry's chocolate in York, helps to celebrate a special anniversary.

To mark 250 years of Terry’s chocolate in York, David Wilson Homes, the developer behind the award-winning Chocolate Works on the site of the former factory, is creating a recipe book together with local partners, businesses and the community.

Local businesses and community groups from across the city are asked to send in their favourite chocolate-based recipes, with the top treat recipe from Nancy Birtwhistle, 2014 winner of the Great British Bake Off, already in the book.

Contributions from York Chocolate Story, Make It York and the son of a former Head Chef who used to work in the Terry’s restaurant, have also been confirmed.

Entries will be collated over the coming weeks, and once the book has been created it will be available from The Chocolate Works sales office, with all proceeds being donated to David Wilson Homes’ charity of the year, the Alzheimer’s Society.

To submit an entry, email a recipe to [email protected] with a brief summary of why it should be included.

Nancy Birtwhistle said: “Being from Yorkshire myself, I know how important it is to keep the heritage and traditions of the area going.

"This recipe book is a great way of bringing together everyone’s favourite tasty chocolate recipes and making them accessible to others. What better way to celebrate such an iconic landmark in our British chocolate history!”

Paul Hogan, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, added: “We’re really excited to see all the entries come through to be part of the recipe book.

"With The Chocolate Works development itself, we put careful considerations in place to make sure that the heritage of the site wasn’t lost, from the Terry’s Factory clock tower to the materials used hinting at the chocolate making legacy for which the site is so well known for.

"The recipe book is just another way for us to keep the chocolate tradition of York alive and we hope the community will get behind it to help us raise lots of money for charity.”
