Hugh Gaitskell Primary School in Beeston, judged ‘Requires Improvement’ in December 2013, has now been awarded a ‘Good’ grade after months of hard work.

A new headteacher, high values and a strong teaching team have all been credited with making the school a “calm, harmonious place” judges said.

“It’s an absolutely magnificent achievement - something the whole school has worked hard for,” said Kate McNulty, headteacher.

“It’s an indication of how the staff, pupils, teachers and governors have worked together.

“We always felt we were a good school but we needed that recognition.”

The Ofsted inspection was carried out May 18 and 19, with the results published this week.

“The recently appointed headteacher is developing a strong teaching team which is reflective about its practice and how it can improve,” the report read.

“As a result, teaching is now good across the school.”

Standards have “significantly” improved in the past year, inspectors found, with pupils making good progress.

The school’s values teach pupils lifelong skills, the report added, and pupils were well cared for.

“This highlights the dedication and commitment of all the staff, the children and the governors and shows how absolutely determined we are to be a good school,” said Mrs McNulty.
