Delays after lorry struck rail bridge in Wakefield

A LORRY struck a railway bridge in the Crofton area of Wakefield this morning.

Police were called to the incident on Doncaster Road near the Redbeck Motel and Cafe at 10.30am.

The road was closed while wreckage was cleared.

Network Rail said the incident caused 30 minute delays to services running on the line between Wakefield and Pontefract and Knottingley.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “The bridge has been examined and there is no damage.”
