A report to the meeting of the city’s Primary Care Commissioning Committee said the current provider, The Practice PLC, could cease running the service on April 30.

The report said: “Since April 2016, the practice has found it difficult to recruit to salaried GP and practice manager posts.”

Patients would be encouraged at register with other nearby surgeries, the report said.

Kippax councillor James Lewis said the practice was based in a converted house and there were other more modern surgeries nearby.

But he added: “We want to make sure that, if patients are transferred to other practices, then there are enough resources so patients will be able to see a GP within a reasonable time.”

The future of a GP surgery on the city’s Cottingley estate will also be discussed at today’s meeting.

A temporary provider has been running Cottingley Surgery since June 2017, but that arrangement could end on March 31.

A survey of people on the estate raised concerns that patients would struggle to travel elsewhere for treatment if the surgery closed, the report said.

An existing GP practice could take over the Cottingley service as a branch surgery.

On Tuesday, the committee will also hold a meeting to decide the future of Swillington Health Practice, along with New Cross Surgery in Rothwell and Middleton Park Surgery.

Grange Medicare is due to cease running the three surgeries when its contract ends in October.
