Days Out: Yorkshire Winter Wonderland

The countdown to Christmas is officially on, with Yorkshire's Winter Wonderland set to open for the festive season at York Designer Outlet next weekend, offering award winning festive fun for all ages and opportunities to skate, play, shop and dine.

A 30ft tall Christmas tree stands as the sparkling centrepiece for the North of England’s largest outdoor ice rink, The Ice Factor.

Little ones can hire Bobo the Penguin or Buddy the Snowman to help stabilise them as they skate.

Made from real ice, the rink is surrounded by an illuminated forest, log cabins and cosy alpine-themed apres-skate café, Papa Hütte.

The heated rinkside chalet is complete with fur blankets, and rustic wooden benches, providing the perfect place to sit back and relax with a warming mug of mulled wine or hot chocolate in hand.

For little ones, no visit would be complete without seeing Father Christmas and his elves.

Follow the path to his grotto through the snowy enchanted woodland, where fairy-tale creatures glow in the dark, and trees are illuminated.
