Days Out: The Piece Hall, Halifax

Nestled within a dramatic landscape of rolling hills and wooded valleys at the centre of the West Yorkshire town of Halifax, The Piece Hall is a must visit destination this winter.

This hidden gem is a monumental Grade 1 listed structure, and the only surviving cloth hall in the UK. Thanks to the completion of a multi-million-pound restoration project last year, it has a spectacular 66,000sq ft courtyard which offers something for everyone.

Visitors can eat, drink, shop, learn and enjoy a huge array of events, from contemporary and classical music concerts, to circus spectacles and street theatre - all year round.

This month, the Piece Hall is hosting a festive fair, with a 32ft Nordic pine from Kielder Forest taking pride of place in the ‘square’. There will also be a sparkling Alpine Tipi for visitors to drink and dine in the Après-themed surroundings.

In the spectacular circus-style Spiegeltent, there’s live music, stand-up comedy and performances for all ages as well as an array of Christmas workshops, giving families the chance to get crafty and learn new skills. Street performers, brass bands and choirs will help to bring the destination to life with festive cheer.

The season will come to an end with a grand finale on New Year’s Eve, bringing in 2019 with a spectacular Outdoor Courtyard Party.
