Expert Called to Investigate Bell Crash in Church

An expert is to attempt today to find out what caused a 6ft. long tubular bell to fall through the chancel roof of the church of St. Agnes and St. Stephen, Burmantofts, Leeds, on Thursday.

As reported exclusively in The Yorkshire Post yesterday, the bell, which weighs several hundredweights, crashed only few minutes before a funeral cortege entered the church. During the service the bier stood over the two-inch deep hole made in the tiled and concrete floor.

The Vicar (the Rev. J. G. Spencer) said last night that “about half the children in the neighbourhood and many adults” had been to see the damage.
