Main story. Only the Law Lords can stop anarchy coming to open spaces right across Leeds, a council chief warned today. Coun Les Carter, who is responsible for travellers issues, warned that there would be total chaos if the Appeal court fails to overturn a European ruling that travellers’ human rights are breached if they are evicted from private land. Yesterday a group of travellers who illegally forced their way onto a school playing field were issued with an eviction order after failing to challenge their right to the land. Over 15 vehicles had descended on the site at Hugh Gaitskell Primary School in Beeston, Leeds, last week.
