Daughter makes Mother's Day appeal on behalf of Leeds hospice

A DAUGHTER who lost her mother to cancer is urging people to support a Leeds hospice that provided much-needed care for her family.

Glynis Bradbury is calling on kind-hearted supporters to join the YEP-backed Mother’s Day campaign for Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice.

Money raised will help provide care for thousands of people living with life-limiting conditions.

Glynis’s mother Ada Wilsey spent her final weeks at the hospice in Headingley after a three-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Glynis said: “My wonderful Mum was amazing.

“She had been carer to my dad for the last 14 years, was fit, healthy, well and full of life.

“From the start of Mum’s diagnosis the Sue Ryder team were amazing.

“Immediately they organised carers for my Dad and lifted the burden from Mum.

“Their presence in that time of need was invaluable.

“Words are very hard to find which express the gratitude I feel for the most amazing care and attention given to us.

“Nothing was too much trouble and Mum was treated in such a kind and dignified way.

“She felt totally safe and cared for.

“They seemed instinctively to know the pain and anguish I was going through and empathised in such a loving way.”

Speaking about Mother’s Day, she added: “I find the build up to the day a sad time, as it emphasises the fact I don’t have my Mum anymore.

“I would encourage [everyone] to love their mums every day whilst they still have them.”

Sara Novara, from Wheatfields Hospice, said: “We want to be here for every family who needs us. With the help of Yorkshire Evening Post readers, we can give families the care and emotional support they need.”
