Parachute comes complete with a shiny dance-pop sound that has drawn comparisons to Take That from some listeners.

But its Ibiza-style sheen should perhaps be no surprise, given the impeccable chart credentials of those involved.

The track was produced by Brian Higgins, who has worked with the likes of Girls Aloud and Pet Shop Boys.

Mixing duties, meanwhile, were handled by Serban Ghenea, whose CV includes link-ups with names such as Rihanna and Justin Timberlake.

Parachute is taken from the Kaisers’ sixth album, Stay Together – due out in October and their first long-player since 2014 UK chart-topper Education, Education, Education & War.

Frontman Ricky Wilson said: “When we finished writing the last record we realised that the most important thing to everyone is what’s going on in their lives – their ‘personal politics’ – and that’s what this album is about.

“If Education, Education, Education & War was our protest album, then Stay Together is our relationship album.

“Brian brought a very different approach to songwriting and recording, it was a steep learning curve, but together we tried out new ideas and sounds and ended up with a new and fresh sounding Kaiser Chiefs album.

“[It’s] like no Kaiser Chiefs record you have heard before.”

Turning to the new single, Ricky said: “When we wrote the first record we were very direct, little needed explaining.

“The songs seemed to speak for themselves and did all the hard work for us.

“Parachute is pretty self-explanatory and a bit of a return to that.

“Parachute is probably the first love song we’ve written since [2007 single] Ruby.”

The Kaisers today also announced a special one-off show at the London Palladium on July 11.

Their other summer concert commitments include a date at York Racecourse on July 22.
