Sir Chris was today confirmed among the famous names who have signed up to appear at The Sporting Social, which has been organised to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Taking place at the Royal Armouries museum on Friday, September 28, it will see top stars from the world of sport talking about their greatest career moments.

They will also put their sporting knowledge to the test in a fast-paced quiz with the audience at the event.

Previously-announced guests include former Leeds United players Brian Deane, Dominic Matteo and Danny Mills, Leeds Rhinos director of rugby Kevin Sinfield and Paralympics champion Hannah Cockroft, with TV favourite Clare Balding set to handle the evening’s presentation duties.

And today Sir Chris said he was “thrilled” to be doing his bit to build on the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, a mum from Rothwell who raised nearly £2m for good causes by tackling marathons and other endurance events while battling terminal cancer.

He said: “Jane Tomlinson was a remarkable and inspirational woman who achieved things many professional athletes can only dream of.

“How she did that while contending with incurable cancer is just incredible.

“I’m thrilled that I can be a part of the Sporting Social and help to raise funds for Jane’s charity, and in turn, help children be happier and healthier and improve the lives of people living with cancer. Come and join us for a fantastic evening.”

Sporting Social tickets are priced £55 per head or £500 for a table of 10 and include all of the night’s entertainment plus reception drinks and a two-course meal.
