A van used for flytipping in Leeds has been crushed after the owner failed to get in touch with the local authority.
A shop owner reported the offence to Leeds City Council’s Cleaner Neighbourhoods Team in December 2017 .
The council reviewed CCTV footage which showed a white van dump a fridge freezer and then drive off.
The authority identified the van owner, and made several attempts to speak with him, but he did not respond. Staff therefore seized the vehicle and cleared the waste away. The culprit later pleaded guilty to the offence at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
Councillor Mohammed Rafique, executive member for the environment, said: “We will not tolerate flytipping in Leeds.”
