Yorkshire magistrate told to step down after 'misusing' disability parking badge

A magistrate has been told to step down by judicial chiefs after "misusing" a disability parking badge.

Margot Conyers, who heard cases in North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, had been the subject of a complaint to the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO).

A JCIO spokesman said Lord Chancellor David Gauke and Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett had found Miss Conyers' actions to be "incompatible with holding judicial office".

"The Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice have removed Miss Margot Conyers JP, of the North and West Yorkshire Local Justice Area, from the magistracy after she was convicted of misusing a disability parking badge," said the JCIO spokesman in a statement.

"The Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice found that Miss Conyers' actions were incompatible with holding judicial office."

He gave no further detail.
