Woman slashed in 'frightening' car-jacking attempt in Leeds

A woman suffered a serious slash wound when car-jackers tried to rob her in Leeds.

The 27-year-old had just got into her VW Polo in Hunslet Hall Road, Beeston, at about 5.25pm on Tuesday and was closing the door when two men approached the car.

One of them tried grab the keys from the ignition and demanded she hand them over but she fended him off and the two men ran off towards Dewsbury Road.

The victim then noticed she was bleeding and had a two to three-inch wound to her arm.

A passerby called an ambulance and police were alerted. The victim was treated at hospital and received stitches.

Detective Constable Jonathan Oates, of Leeds neighbourhood crime team, said: "This was clearly a very frightening incident and the victim has been left badly shaken.

"We are carrying out extensive enquiries and would like to hear from anyone who saw these men in the area or who has any information that could assist the investigation."

A friend of the victim posted about the incident on Facebook.

She wrote that her friend had been dropping other friends off when the incident happened.

The woman wrote: "These disgusting b******* have slashed open her arm, but she is beyond lucky that this is all she came off with.

"I think people need to be more aware of how dangerous it is to be driving without locking your doors weather it be day or night.

"I've asked if I can shared these as so many people have laughed at me for always locking my doors but it goes to show you never know who's watching or what they're willing to do to take your property."

The man who attacked the woman was either Asian or black, aged 25 to 30, about 5ft 8ins tall and had broad shoulders.

He was wearing a black zip-up jacket, with the collar covering his face up to his nose, and a white beanie hat pulled down to his eyes. He had a deep voice and a local accent.

The other man was of similar ethnicity and height and of skinny build. He was wearing a dark hooded top with white drawstrings and a zip up front, with the hood obscuring his face.
