A teenager has been arrested after a woman was raped in Leeds city centre in the early hours of today.

The 20-year-old victim contacted police after an incident on Assembly Street, behind Leeds Corn Exchange.

Detective Inspector Mark Strother, of Leeds District CID, said: “At 2.19am today police received a report of a serious sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman in a paved area near to Assembly Street in Leeds city centre.

“A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody. The scene is undergoing forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing.”
