Woman punched in the face on Yorkshire beach for asking family not to litter - police appeal

Police have launched an investigation after a woman was punched in the face after asking a family not to litter.

The woman spoke to two other women, who had children with them, who then became aggressive towards her and one of the women then assaulted the victim, North Yorkshire Police said.

Police say they have carried out enquiries in the area and are appealing for information.

The incident happened on Filey beach at around 6pm on Friday, August 7. The attacker was described as Asian and the woman she was with was black and they were with several young children, police said.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We're investigating after a woman who asked a family not to leave litter on a North Yorkshire beach was punched in the face. Do you have any information?

"The woman spoke to two other women, who had children with them, and who became aggressive towards her. One of the women then assaulted the victim.

"Officers have carried out enquiries in the area and are appealing to the public for information that could help them identify the suspect.

"The incident happened on Filey beach at around 6pm on Friday, 7 August.

"The attacker was described as of Asian appearance and the woman she was with was described as black, and they were with a number of young children. No further description is currently available."
