Woman from Batley charged with terrorism offence

A WEST Yorkshire woman has appeared before magistrates in Westminster charged with a terrorism offence.

Mary Kaya, 56, from Batley, is accused of disseminating terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

She was arrested in October last year as part of an planned operation led by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.

A North East CTU spokeswoman said Kaya had been charged under the Terrorism Act 2006.

She is due to appear before a court again later this month.

The trial has been taking place at Leeds Crown Court.
