The struggle continued as he got into the vehicle and drove off with the bag, but the woman was dragged along the ground which caused her to suffer a hip injury. She she is currently being treated for in hospital.

The suspect is described as white with dark hair and is believed to have spoken with an accent which wasn't thought to be English.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Kirklees CID, said: "The victim had travelled home from the Spangled Bull pub in Earlsheaton, so it is a possibility she had been followed by the suspect.

"This was a particularly nasty incident and I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything to contact DC Willetts at Kirklees CID on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
