Witnesses sought as police arrest Leeds man over '˜lewd act' on bus

WITNESSES who saw a man commit a '˜lewd act' in front of a teenage girl on a bus are being asked to contact police.

A 72-year-old man from Leeds has been arrested in connection with six incidents of public indecency in Leeds city centre on February 23 and an incident in Dewsbury on February 21.

The man is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.

The incident in Dewsbury involved a 15-year-old girl.

Police said the teenager reported seeing a man committing a ‘lewd act’ on the top deck of the number 202 bus from Dewsbury to Leeds.

The incident took place as the bus reached Bywell Road in Dewsbury, at about 11.30am on Sunday, February 21.

Speaking about the incident, sergeant Pat Kenning, of Leeds City Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “There were a number of other people on the bus at the time.

“We would like trace them as potential witnesses to this incident.”
