A West Yorkshire Police operational dog has detained a burglar who escaped after setting fire to a church community hall

The suspect of a burglary at St Paulinus Social Club ran away after the police arrived within two minutes to a 1am call.

Operational West Yorkshire Police dog PD Macy detained the suspect after the burglary on High Street at Westtown in Kirklees.

The suspect had also set fire inside the community hall which was dealt with by the Fire Service.

One person is now in custody for burglary and arson.

A tweet from operational dogs PD Macy, PD Molly and their handler's twitter account said: "Kirklees. 1am, ongoing burglary at church community hall.

"We arrive within 2 minutes, suspect makes a run for it quickly followed by PD Macy who soon detains them.

"Suspect had also set fire inside which was dealt with by Fire Service.

"1 in custody for burglary & arson"
