West Yorkshire man who attacked police officer causing his scalp to split fined £120

A West Yorkshire man who attacked a police officer and caused him to split open his scalp has been fined.

Billy Cooper, 22, was running from a suspected stolen car in Keighley when the officer went to detain him.

Cooper, of Highfield Road, Keighley, barged him into a wall which caused a head injury.

The officer still has a scar from the assault, which took place in November 2019.

Cooper pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency services worker when he appeared at Skipton Magistrates Court on Wednesday, September 9.

He was given a £120 fine by magistrates.

He was also ordered to pay £250 compensation and £85 costs with a £32 victim surcharge.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed the officer has fully recovered and is currently on duty.
