Motorists in Leeds are set for another weekend of misery with closures due to take place along the Leeds Inner Ring Road while essential maintenance work is carried out.
The A58(M) will be closed to traffic in both directions from 7pm tomorrow until 6am on Monday while engineers strengthen the Westgate Footbridge.
A Leeds City Council spokesman said: “The works are part of a programme of ongoing essential maintenance work to upgrade the Inner Ring Road and need to be carried out safely while part of the road is closed.”
They also say that, where possible, the shutdowns have been timed to avoid major city centre events.
However, the second closure coincides with the visit of this year’s X Factor live tour which arrives at the First Direct Arena on Saturday.
Strengthening work to the central pier, with associated upgrading of safety fence, will also be carried out as part of the maintenance scheme.
Diversions will be in place during the closure period until Monday morning.
Eastbound traffic will be affected between the A58(M) exit slip road at Welling Street to slip road at Westgate Point for Park Lane.
The closures will affect westbound traffic between the A653 Marsh Lane exit slip road and the A58 (M) junction with Wellington Street.
As previously reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, repairs are also being carried out on the Woodhouse Tunnel, which runs below the University of Leeds and Leeds
