Police are looking for this man after a woman had her purse stolen from her coat in a pub at Leeds railway station.

British Transport Police released the CCTV image after the incident at Weatherspoons on January 5.

The 44-year-old woman was in the pub at about 8.10pm when she was targeted.

PC Penny Halliwell, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, from Bardsey in Leeds, was sitting in Weatherspoons with a friend. Her coat, which had her purse in the pocket, was hanging on the back of her chair.

“A man sitting on the next table to the victim then reached into the victim’s coat pocket before removing the purse and immediately leaving.”

Officers have conducted several lines of enquiry including viewing CCTV at the station and speaking to witnesses.

They are now urging anyone who recognises the man pictured to come forward.

PC Halliwell added: “Pickpocket crime is opportunistic and offenders will target anyone whose belongings are not protected as well as they could be.

“Valuables should be kept well concealed and bags and pockets zipped up or closed at all times.”

Anyone with information should call 0800 405040, quoting reference B10/NEA of January 9.
