Eight people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the back.

Police were called to Vicar Lane in Leeds city centre at about 6pm on Friday night (July 3).

A 17-year-old boy was found with injuries to his back and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Eight men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. All eight remained in custody on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: At 18.06 yesterday police were called to report of a stabbing at Vicar Lane in Leeds City Centre.

"A 17 year old man was found with injuries to his back, he’s in hospital in a serious but not life threatening condition.

"Eight males have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody at this time.

"Extensive enquiries are underway.
