At the height of the fire on Friday night, more than 40 firefighters were tackling the blaze at a car lot on Bentley Moor Lane in Carcroft, Doncaster.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident at around 10pm on Friday July 31.
Crews tackled the fire and were 'expected to be in attendance for most of the night'.
The service warned the public to avoid the area and drew on the support of neighbouring West and North Yorkshire fire services.
A drone, from South Yorkshire Police, was also used to help the firefighting effort.
On Saturday morning, three crews remained at the scene.
There are currently no reports of any injuries and it is not yet known how the fire started.
A fire investigation into the cause of this fire – which is now understood to have involved over 900 cars – will begin this morning, the fire service said.
