Two people in hospital after shots fired on street in Woodhouse

A man and woman were treated in hospital after a gun was fired on a residential street in Woodhouse.

Emergency services were called to Eltham Rise after gunshots were heard shortly before 9pm on Saturday night.

A 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman presented at hospital with injuries which police said were "consistent with a firearms discharge".

A scene remained in place this morning (Sunday) and detectives at West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiries Team are investigating the crime.

Forensics officers were seen at one of the houses on the cul-de-sac, where several police cars and vans were still present.

The man remains in hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, while the woman has since been discharged.

A spokesman for the force said: "Detectives in the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

"There will be increased police patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the community.

"A scene remains in place this morning while enquiries are carried out.
