Two men are being treated for gunshot wounds in West Yorkshire in an incident that has been linked to the later discovery of a burned out car.
West Yorkshire Police say that two men, both in their twenties, went to hospital last night following a report of a firearms discharge in Heaton Road, close to the junction with Rose Street at about 10.34pm.
A short time later police were contacted about a burned out vehicle which had been found a short distance away.
This is believed to be linked to the gunshots and has been recovered for further tests while a spokesperson added that the men's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Det Chief Insp Jaz Khan, of the Firearms Prevent Team, said: “Enquiries are at an early stage, but we believe this to be a targeted attack and there is not thought to be a wider risk to the public"
He has appealed for anyone who was in the area or may have seen anything suspicious to contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
