Tragic Leeds teenager took drugs on night out '“ inquest opens

Aisha Sajid, of St Wilfrids Avenue, Harehills, was taken ill in Pryzm nightclub on Woodhouse Lane in the early hours on Tuesday July 26.

Wakefield Coroner’s Court heard Miss Sajid, a student at Allerton Grange School, Moortown, was taken to St James’s Hospital where she collapsed and died.

West Yorkshire Coroner David Hinchliff said: “On July 25 this young lady visited a nightclub in Leeds with her boyfriend.

“I’m told during the course of the evening she had consumed several alcoholic drinks and had taken a tablet which was thought to be MDMA, or ecstasy.

“She became unwell and door staff at the club assisted with first aid and called an ambulance.”

Miss Sajid was admitted to St James’s Hospital just before 2.30am on July 26.

Mr Hinchliff said she “suddenly collapsed” at the hospital and was taken to the intensive care unit after suffering multi-organ failure.

Her death was confirmed at 11.35am on July 26.

The inquest opening heard a forensic post mortem has been carried, out but the cause of death is unascertained.

Mr Hinchliff adjourned the inquest pending the outcome of further medical tests and police enquiries.

Police said last week that a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug. He was later bailed

Det Insp Phil Jackson, of Leeds District CID, said in a statement: “This young woman’s family are completely devastated at her death in such sudden and tragic circumstance.”
