As Christmas approaches, West Yorkshire Police have issued guidance on how to keep your home safe this winter. They say using timer lights and dusk till dawn lights, locking your doors and windows and using your alarm can significantly reduce your chances of being a victim of burglary. Always take the key out of the lock and keep it in a safe place - do not leave keys or valuables in reach of the letterbox, a cat flap, or on view through a window. If you have a burglar alarm always remember to switch it on when you leave the house or when you go to bed. These Leeds neighborhoods had the highest burglary rates in the city between November 2019 and October 2020, so residents in these areas should take particular care:
1. Leeds City Centre
Leeds City Centre had a burglary rate of 22.8 crimes per 1,000 people between November 2019 to October 2020
2. Headingley Central
Headingley Central had a burglary rate of 17.23 crimes per 1,000 people between November 2019 to October 2020
3. Upper Armley
Upper Armley had a burglary rate of 14.36 crimes per 1,000 people between November 2019 to October 2020
4. Brackenwood and Gledhow
Brackenwood and Gledhow had a burglary rate of 14.1 crimes per 1,000 people between November 2019 to October 2020
5. Wellington Hill, Whinmoor and Red Hall
Wellington Hill, Whinmoor and Red Hall had a burglary rate of 13.72 crimes per 1,000 people between November 2019 to October 2020
