A teenager suffered a serious head injury after being attacked with a hammer outside a convenience shop in Leeds.

The 18-year-old was with friends outside the McDonald’s on Easterly Road, Oakwood, when a VW Golf car was driven at them aggressively at about 6.45pm on Monday.

They ran across the dual carriageway, but were pursued and a man got out of the car and hit the 18-year-old on the head with the hammer.

He took refuge in the Tesco Express store before being taken to hospital for treatment to a large cut.

Police are investigating. Anyone with information should call Det Insp Paul Hobson at Leeds CID on 101.
