A youth has appeared in court charged over an alleged machete attack on teenage girl in Leeds.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, made a brief appearance at Leeds Youth Court on Friday morning.

He is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a 16-year-old girl in an incident on Monday night.

It is claimed she was slashed across the face during an incident at Lingfield Drive in Moortown.

During a 10-minute hearing the case was outlined and the youth, from north Leeds, spoke only to confirm his name and to ask for clarification on the charge.

He was remanded in custody until January 23 to appear at Leeds Crown Court.

Two other men, aged 17 and 20, and a 15-year-old girl who were arrested as part of the investigation remain on police bail pending further enquiries.
