Taxi driver taken to hospital after crash with police car travelling to Middleton shooting

A taxi driver has been taken to hospital after a crash with an armed response police car in Middleton.

The blue BMW X5 police car was travelling on blue lights to a shooting in Thorpe Road on Monday evening.

It crashed with a black Toyota Auris at the junction of Ring Road Beeston Hill and Bodmin Road at 7.59pm.

The taxi driver, a man in his fifties, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not considered life threatening.

A male passenger in the taxi and the two police officers in the BMW received minor injuries.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who has relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

The armed response unit was travelling to Thorpe Road following reports that a man had been shot in the leg.

A 31-year-old man later turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound.

His injuries are not considered life threatening and he has now been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information which could help the investigation.
