Suspected cocaine with £500,000 street value seized as van stopped on A1M by Leeds officers

Police have seized suspected drugs with an estimated street value of more than £500,000, after a van was stopped on the A1M motorway.

Officers stopped the van on the northbound carriageway of the motorway at 10am on Thursday, West Yorkshire Police said.

After searching the vehicle, the officers found 7kg of suspected cocaine.

The estimated street value is £560,000, police said.

A 38-year-old man, of Wellesbourne Crescent, High Wycombe, was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court on Friday charged with possession with intent to supply class a drugs.

Officers from the Leeds District Programme Precision team are leading the investigation.

Detective Superintendent Carl Galvin said: “This was a significant seizure of suspected class a drugs that could have caused real harm to people in our communities.

“Through Programme Precision we are working together with local, national and international partners to bring those responsible for serious and organised crime to justice.”
