Social media users were "shocked" at the discovery of the snake, with a few people saying it looked like an adder.

A WYFRS spokesman said: "If you're afraid of snakes then look away now!

"Firefighters from Skelmanthorpe Fire Station came across an interesting find whilst dealing with a large moorland fire this weekend!

"Thanks to some top work, our brilliant crews managed to save the snake from the fire."
